What can YAP offer UK participants?

1. A place at the Youth Forum in Beijing in September – cultural and disability awareness, attending the Paralympics – we will be going to the Opening Ceremony and at least one other event

2. Top quality skills training by leading exponents such as the Northern Ballet Theatre, Youth Sports Trust, 100 words project and YeastCulture – these will deliver communications skills training

3. Knowledge and insights into the Paralympics movement and ideals

4. Opportunities to stay involved when you return home – how would depend on individual circumstances – we will be undertaking personalised action planning with them during the Youth Forum so that they are very clear about the next steps and will contribute to making the project sustainable

5. A China experience!

 

YAP Youth Forum in Beijing, September 2008

Beijing Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) is the official host of the Young Advocates Programme (YAP) Youth forum. As such the forum is an official activity of the 29th Paralympic Games cultural Olympiad.

Forum Dates: 6 day forum held between 6-11 September.

Young Advocates should arrive in China by the 5th September

Young Advocates will be free to depart China on the 12th September

Forum Objectives: 240 Young Advocates will spend six days living on campus, participating in a forum designed to promote cultural awareness, discussion/debate and activities between the young people of mainland China, Hong Kong and UK.

Participants will have the opportunity to take part in skills workshops (organisational, leadership, communications) and will attend the Paralympics going to the Opening Ceremony and at least one other event


Number of Participants:
• 120 advocates from mainland China/ Hong Kong
• 100 advocates from UK
• 20 international advocates

Total: 240 able and disabled young people from the UK, China and Hong Kong.

Costs: All in China costs including accommodation, travel, transport, food and Paralympic ticket costs will be covered by the British Council.

Costs of international airfare, visa's, pocket money and travel insurance will NOT be covered by the programme. However, there is a bursary available for participants with extenuating circumstances.
